Adult's biological meaning means an animal that is capable of reproduction. Adults are a social concept and a legal one within the world of humans. As opposed to someone that isn't considered an adult, or "minor" legally adult has attained majority, which makes them independent, capable, and responsible. Also, they can be described as an "major". The age when a child turns an adult legally is 18, however, the definition of"legal maturity" can be different depending upon the nation or legal system as well as the state of their mental health.

Adulthood refers to the period in human life when an individual has reached maturity both in mental and physical development. It usually starts when a person reaches 21, which is the average age for adults. Then, after middle age (starting at around 40) then comes old age (around the age of 60). Young adulthood starts between ages of 18 and 30. Middle adulthood occurs from in the 30s to 60s. The transition to late adulthood begins around the middle of 60s. As we enter early adulthood the body is at the fullest physical maturation. However, our height and our weight can grow. As we enter the first years of adulthood, we are physically at our peak. Strength of muscles, reaction time, sensoriac ability and cardiac function are all at their maximum.
